The Town
Midpines, known as a "the Pride of the Sierra", is a small town in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains. It is conveniently located 25 miles from Yosemite National Park and only 6 miles to the beautiful town of Mariposa, California. Most local goods and services can be found in Mariposa. We have included some of recommendations for the surrounding area below. We also recommend that you visit our Instagram page for up-to-date information on what is happening in and around town and the park.
Midpines Store & Gas
This little shop has saved us many times. It is owned by a very nice family and has been thoughtfully stocked with anything you may have forgotten. The best part, it is just steps down the road. We like to walk over after dinner to grab a sweet treat. Just be extra careful crossing the road. It is also a great place to fill up you gas tank as the closer you get to the park, there is only one other gas option and its pricey.
High Country Health Food
Hidden gem! This small health food store is packed with fresh produce, organic and vegan options, clean products and more. It also has a scrumptious cafe that serves fresh sandwiches, wraps and salads. You can even pick up some grab and go food items to take with you on your adventure.
Sierra Cider
Tucked away cider tasting room. They always have something going on whether it's their Mountain Market where local vendors come together for a farmers' market, a karaoke night, movie under the stars, trebuchet day or live music. Check out their IG for what's happening. This is the perfect spot to enjoy a cider while playing oversized yard games or just sit and enjoy. Kid friendly too!
Okie Dokie
New shop in town owned by clearly talented husband and wife team that make and sell leather and ceramic goods. Everything in this shop is beautifully crafted.
The Grove House
So welcoming and fun. Grove House offers casual dining with both indoor and outdoor seating. They are dog & kid friendly with fun drinks and live music. The menu is constantly changing and showcasing their range of fabulous cuisine. Check out their instagram for their most recent menu and happenings.
Mariposa Pizza Factory
Great for the whole family! Pro Tip: this place can get busy (for good reason) so call your order in ahead of time if you are short on time.
Yosemite Climbing Museum
My ability to climb ends at about 18 inches off the ground but my respect and appreciation for the sport has no limits. This is really a great place to stop in and support a local treasure. This museum displays perfectly curated climbing artifacts and memorabilia. It was founded by respected climber and guide, Ken Yager. Ken is also the founding force behind the Yosemite Facelift program which coordinates thousands of volunteers each fall for a massive clean-up effort throughout Yosemite.
1850 Restaraunt
Absolutely delicious! I could eat the Steakhouse Burger here every day. Smoky pub cheese, fried onion rings, thick smoked bacon, & bourbon steak sauce atop a perfectly cooked burger- Yum! My husband loves the tri tip with 1850 bbq sauce and caramelized onions partnered with one of their local beers and the kids go crazy for the mac & cheese. The service is always efficient and friendly. This might be our favorite spot in town!
Mae It Be Home
I could spend all my milk money in this shop. Every home decor item selected for this shop was handpicked and there are so many unique & locally sourced finds. The owner of this shop really loves and cares about the town and is always coordinating something within the community whether it be a coffee hour for business owners or making sure the town is dressed up for a holiday.
Charles Street Dinner House
We had passed by this place many times and most of the times we passed by it was because it was closed during the day. We recently ate dinner here and we will absolutely be back. Jackie recommends the coconut shrimp and the kids keep on raving about the steak and french fries. Tony hardly spoke during his french dip sandwich. The ambience in here is very small town and historical. Its fun.
The Californian Commissary
This is a picnic/charcuterie shop in town. You can pick all your own locally sourced meats, cheeses and accompaniments or if you are overwhelmed with decision paralysis (like Jackie) you can ask them to make you a box. Our favorite cheeses are the Point Reyes Truffle Toma and the Humbolt Fog by Cypress grove.
Gold Cup Creamery
A family favorite. We are so excited this shop opened last year! Feels like it completes favorite our little town. Tasty ice cream shop with friendly service... need I say more?
Pioneer Market
Perfect place to stock up on food and drinks for your stay. Pioneer market is a fully stocked market located just down in Mariposa
